Importance of a logo – design, symbolism, and color

The Drew and Cole Deddens Foundation is proud to announce our new logo. According to the website Chron, “As the company's major graphical representation, a logo anchors a company's brand and becomes the single most visible manifestation of the company within the target market.” From an article at Virgin’s website, senior designer Jo Evans adds, “Your logo is the first thing people notice about you and you want it to set the right mood and create the right initial impression and so, personality is everything.” And finally, the June 2017 iStorm Group blog post entitled “The Importance of Brand” concludes that having a brand that represents the sum of people's perception of a company's customer service, reputation, advertising, and logo is key to creating a culture that people want to be a part of. For all of these reasons and more, we have created a new logo for the Drew and Cole Deddens Foundation.

The symbolism behind the logo

Of course, the twin doves depicted in the logo represent Drew and Cole Deddens and their undying spirit. Doves are the universal symbol of peace, love and even that of messengers. Our message is simple and included in the tag line of the logo: “Courage and Fortitude.” It takes courage and fortitude to carry on in the face of unspeakable hardship. Our mission is to give the gift of hope to millions of children who receive lifesaving care every year, and families with young children who just need a little help – courage and fortitude.

The meaning behind the logo colors

Color is just as important to the logo as is design. Our logo purposefully uses shades of red, orange, purple and blue. The source of the following information is the website Bourn Creative, but it sums up our feelings very well. Red is the color of fire and blood, so it is associated with energy, strength, power, determination, passion, desire, and love. Orange is associated with meanings of joy, warmth, heat, sunshine, enthusiasm, creativity, success, encouragement, change, determination, health, stimulation, happiness, fun, and enjoyment The color purple is often associated with royalty – in our case, that is the Kingdom of God. Purple also represents meanings of creativity, wisdom, dignity, grandeur, devotion and peace. Blue is the color of the sky and sea. It is often associated with depth and stability. It symbolizes trust, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, intelligence, faith, truth, and heaven.

Summing it up

We couldn’t be more happy with our new logo. It sums up perfectly what we are all about - peace, love, strength, health, happiness, dignity, devotion, faith and heaven – and of course, Drew and Cole themselves. Courage and fortitude.
